"Shining example of regeneration" as Association wins top property Award

Thenue Housing is celebrating a housing triumph after it scopped a top award for its latest east end housing.

The Association won the title of 'Social Housing Development of the Year' in the coveted Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2012.

Incredibly, the success comes less than two months after the landmark £11 million development on London Road was officially opened.

The announcement made at a gilttering ceremony in Glasgow means Thenue beat off entries from other housing providers to claim the title.

Welcoming the news, Thenue Chief Executive Charlie Turner, said the Association was "thrilled" by the win.

Charlie said: "What is so remarkable is that this Award has been won so soon after the development was opened. It really was a team effort in creating these much needed new homes for the east end.

"I want to pay tribute to everyone who was involved in the project, from the moment the plans were drawn up to the day is opened its doors. We are delighted with this success but the real price is that we have created new homes in a community where people want to live."

The striking development of 37 homes has also provided new offices for Thenue which has homes across the east end and in other parts of the city.

To the rear of the building there are a further 10 terraced houses, two semi-detached properties and one wheelchair-accessible bingalow.

Thenue is one of Glasgow's leading housing providers and a key part of its work is the regeneration of the areas where it has homes.

This commitment to communities was identified by the Award judges who described the homes in glowing terms saying: "The development is a shining example of the fact that regeneration makes a huge difference to residents with a good mix of accommodation types."

Thenue said it was heartened by the fact that the judges highlighted the regeneration work which the Association carries out.

Charlie Turner added: "We are particularly pleased that the judges, in their deliberations, highlighted the regeneration work which we do. We consider that to be a vital aspect of our activities and we are strongly committed not just to delivering good housing but to helping the communities we serve."

In early August, the properties were officially declared open by the Rt Hon, The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Sadie Docherty who also praised it and the work of Thenue Housing.
